♥ Definition: Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive and effective form of exfoliation using a diamond tipped applicator with slight suction to remove dead and damaged superficial skin cells. Safe for all skin types with little to no downtime or discomfort.
♥ Devices: Professional Series Nova Diamond Microdermabrasion
♥ Frequency: Treatments can be performed every 3-4 weeks in a series of up to 6 sessions.
If client is receiving Microdermabrasion in conjunction with Photofacials there should be a resting time of two-three weeks between treatments.
♥ Client Instructions Prior to Appointment:
- Prep skin for treatments--avoid heavy exfoliation, products etc. Gently cleanse skin the night before and use a light moisturizer and sunscreen.
- Be aware of any medications, skin conditions or products that you are currently using that may affect your skin’s sensitivity levels.
♥ What Should Clients Expect:
- Immediately after treatment, client may have some redness and hotness to the skin, warm to the touch and possibly a slight windburn feeling. Should be pink in color lasting 1-4 hours.
- Aloe and an ice pack will help soothe the patient’s skin if necessary.
- Dramatic results are best seen in a series of treatments. A one-time treatment will be similar to a deep cleaning or polishing of the skin.
- For clients with combination-oily skin: you may experience a slight acne flare-up following treatment. For severe acne conditions, this treatment is not recommended.
♥ After Care Instructions (for two weeks following treatment):
- No waxing or chemical hair removal.
- Avoid rubbing, friction and heat.
- Do not pick or scratch treated area.
- Avoid direct sun exposure and wear a sunscreen compatible with your skin.
- Treat the skin gently until sensitivity or redness subsides.
♥ Possible Side Effects:
- Temporary mild discomfort from treatment, may feel warmth or tingling.
- Clients with active and severe acne should avoid treatment until condition has improved.
- Hyper/hypopigmentation and scarring have occasionally been reported.
- All patient concerns, side effects and complications should be addressed and documented.
